We support children's learning and development through play
Children start to learn about the world around them from the moment they are born, and play helps young children to learn and develop through doing and talking. Research has shown play to be the means by which young children learn to think. We provide a safe and stimulating environment where children can have fun and enjoy learning through play and where they can explore their world using all their senses.
Our pre-school is organised so that the children can make choices, be creative and produce their own work. Children can explore the environment and be adventurous in safety. We believe that every child is unique and we encourage individuality and independence. As children develop we introduce them to new skills and experiences as well as helping them to learn to work with others.
Why do children need to play?
It enables children to:
Explore, develop and represent learning experiences that help them make sense of the world around them.
Learn how to control impulses and understand the need for rules and boundaries
Practise and build up ideas, concepts and skills
Be alone and be alongside others
Take risks and make mistakes
Think creatively and imaginatively
Investigate and solve problems
Outside play is encouraged in all weathers. We do play out WHATEVER the weather, so suitable outdoor clothing should also be sent e.g. wellies & waterproofs, hats & gloves, sunhats and sun cream etc. We also request that your child brings along a complete change of spare clothes in case of any accidents/spills. Please send in a named bag.
Why is play outdoors important?
It allows children to:
Be physically co-ordinated
Be physically and mentally healthy
Experience multi-sensory learning
Use a range of different learning styles
Have space and freedom to move all their muscles
Become resilient to life, develop confidence / self esteem
